To minimise traffic congestion in the Sydney’s CBD and major Sydney controlled roads can be closed partially or fully, depending on your requirements. Partial road closures are only approved in low traffic conditions when there will be at least 1 through-lane for traffic to ensure 2-way traffic can continue to operate under traffic control for the duration of the work. Any diversion of traffic flow will require the proposal to be treated as a full road closure.
Any undertaking that requires a road closure to do roadwork and/or various other road-related activities such as operating a mobile crane, cherry picker, concrete boom pump, travel tower or boom lift requires you to provide a traffic management plan to be submitted to council for approval to obtain a permit for the proposed road closure. Approval is also needed if you plan to put barricades on footpaths.
Construction Traffic Management Plans Call (02) 8068 18 44
As a condition of their development consent, some developments are required to submit a construction traffic management plan (CTMP) to council for approval. The plan is a report that assesses traffic impacts on the local road network created by the construction of the development.
Your CTMP report must reflect standard requirements and provide a description of the proposed construction works, the traffic impacts on the local area and how these impacts will be addressed.
Works zone applications
Works zones are provided to aid the efficient and safe operation of construction activity at development sites. Generally, all loading and unloading associated with construction will be accommodated within the development site. A driver can stop in a works zone if they are driving a vehicle that is engaged in construction work in or near the zone, or dropping off or picking up passengers.
