If you are looking to temporarily close a public road or street to setup a work site or hold an event you must firstly obtain all the required permit. The first step is to complete the Road closure application form and submit to Council.

This it self is not always easy and most find this application process stressful and time consuming. Together with your application you must also provide a Traffic Control Plan and a Certificate of Currency Public Liability Insurance.

Temporary works approval

If a footpath, cycle-way or roadway will need to be temporarily closed or partially obstructed during development or works activity, a temporary works approval is required.

The approval can include hoisting activity using swinging stages for minor facade works only such as painting and cleaning, and associated required temporary barricading of the public place below the hoisting zone.

A traffic/pedestrian control plan drawn by accredited person may also be required with the application, in accordance with the Roads and Maritime Services.

Partially or Fully Closed

Roads can be closed partially or fully, depending on your requirements. Partial road closures are only approved in low traffic conditions when there will be at least 1 through-lane for traffic to ensure 2-way traffic can continue to operate under traffic control for the duration of the work.
